Boys Play Well Lose Heartbreaker to Gramercy

The boys soccer team played their best game of the year on Thursday afternoon in Newport, NC vs. Gramercy. The team attacked the Warrior goal throughout the first half until freshman midfielder Zane James scored on a rebound of an outstanding shot by 8th grader Florian Vorleiter. The Falcons continued to dominate play throughout the first part of the second half until Gramercy scored on a free kick with about 15 minutes to play. The teams traded scoring opporutunities down the stretch until Gramercy scored on a corner kick with just under three minutes remaining. While the loss was disappointing the game was an excellent showcase of how much the team has improved and is learning to play together. Middle school students Brenden McLaughlin, Aaron Bordaes and Vorleiter all played exceptional games as did Freshmen James, John Mayo and Austin Held. Finally, sophomore Matt Holdren, keeper Tyler Held, junior Eddie Palumbo and senior Derek Richey also put forth great efforts against a tough Gramercy squad. The boys travel to Greenfield on Tuesday for their next game.
